Kilawin na Puso ng Saging sa Sotanghon (Vinegar Stewed Banana Blossom in Vermicelli Noodles) Recipe

This hearty dish is easy to make!

An easy veggie recipe perfect for the Lenten season. You can make it by omitting the ground pork and replacing it with any seafood of your choice. I also love adding fried tofu for an additional healthy protein source.

Kilawin na Puso ng Saging sa Sotanghon (Vinegar Stewed Banana Blossom in Vermicelli Noodles) Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium sized onions, minced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 250g ground meat (pork, chicken or shrimp)
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 250g banana blossom (puso ng Saging), shredded
  • 250g vermicelli noodles, soaked in water
  • 1 cup water
  • chives, chopped, optional
  • chilis, optional
  • 1 block tofu, diced and fried, optional
  • salt, to taste
  • ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a wok or pan, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil.
  • Add ground meat and sauté for another 5 minutes.
  • Add salt and pepper.
  • Add vinegar and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Add banana blossom, vermicelli noodles, and 1-2 cups water.
  • Mix well and simmer for about 10 minutes. Make sure to mix noodles occasionally to avoid it sticking to the pan. The water should be reduced and absorbed by the noodles.
  • Add more salt and pepper if needed. To serve, top with some chopped chives before serving, or chilis for a spicier version. Top with tofu if desired.
