The popular pasalubong if one is coming home from Japan includes different treats like boxes of Royce Chocolate, packs of KitKat in different Japan-exclusive flavors, and boxes of the famous Tokyo Banana, among many other sweets. But just in case you’re not familiar with Tokyo Banana and you’re curious about what it is, this is a banana-shaped sponge cake filled with banana-flavored custard cream.
Want to try Tokyo Banana but don’t have the budget to book a roundtrip flight to Tokyo? Well, you’re lucky because the newly-opened Mitsukoshi in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) has Tokyo Banana in their supermarket!
Warning: it’s a looot more expensive than its retail price.
According to Tokyo Banana’s official website, a box of eight pieces cost Y1,166 or around P476.63. If you buy it at the Mitsukoshi supermarket, the same box costs P1,050. That’s more than double its retail price in Japan.
Some may argue that it’s too expensive for a box of Tokyo Banana, even if it’s imported. But if the craving calls for it and if you have the budget to splurge on such cravings, you just go ahead and add it to your grocery cart.
