This Underrated Sugar-Free Tres Leches Deserves Your Attention

It's so good!

Any notion that sugar-free desserts are less delicious than regular sugary desserts should be thrown out the window. There is quite a lot of really good keto-friendly, sugar-free desserts that deserve the limelight as much as their counterparts.

Take, for example, Chrisha’s Kitchen, a Quezon City-based dessert shop that specializes in the realm of healthier desserts. A bite of their sugar-free, keto-friendly, diabetic-friendly, gluten-free, and low-carb Queso Tres Leches is bound to change all your dismissive opinions you have about sugar-free desserts.

What you need to know about it

For those who don’t know what tres leches is, this is often a sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk, commonly a combination of evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. Since condensed milk isn’t keto-friendly, Chrisha’s Kitchen swapped the trio of milk by using a combination of whipped cream, half and half, and their very own homemade keto-friendly condensed milk.

Wait, there’s more! There are four layers to this delicious milk-soaked cake. The bottom part is a vanilla cake soaking wet because of the milk, but it’s also topped with a layer of caramel custard, followed by a layer of whipped cream, and finished off with a generous amount of grated parmesan.

What we love about it

This dessert is perfect if you love milk since the flavors are mainly milky and mildly sweet coming from the milk-soaked chiffon. The layer of slightly-sweetened whipped cream gives it an airy, mousse-like texture and the layer of parmesan topping the canned cake gives it a contrasting yet complementary saltiness to the sweet dessert.

If you don’t mind the idea of a soggy cake, then you’re probably not going to be put off by this tres leches cake. Since this is served in a tin can, all of the milk plus any extra is soaked by the chiffon, and this makes the entire cake melt and crumble easily when you take a bite.
