There’s a common misconception about party cakes – most of the time, people assume that the more advanced the design is, the less delicious it probably is. Somewhere along the way, people started to think that the flavor of the cake somehow would always get sacrificed when more effort is put into the design. However, this isn’t always the case – and it really shouldn’t be the norm – because nowadays, there’s many a stellar baker that can make cakes that are a feast for the mouth as much as it’s a feast for the eyes!

This is why when we find a myth-busting cake (meaning, cakes that taste as good as they look), we know it’s just criminal to gate-keep. And boy, we’ve got just the bakery for you if you’re looking for someplace that serves delicious cakes with classy, elegant designs: BBakery.

What You Need to Know About BBakery

BBakery is an online bakery founded by Geraldine Santiago, who ventured into the cake business during the pandemic. The “B” in BBakery stands for Betty Chu, who is Santiago’s late mother, and founder of Savory Restaurant (yes, the one of Savory Chicken fame). Mrs. Chu, had always pushed Santiago to begin her own food business, despite the latter being a children’s clothes designer at the time. When the pandemic hit, Santiago found herself picking up the spatula and learning cake recipes from Youtube, and with her team of three at home, she slowly but surely began to produce delicious and beautiful cakes – cakes that were more than good enough to sell.

In April 2020, she began advertising her cakes, and through word of mouth and the power of social media, BBakery’s cakes began to… well, sell like hotcakes. Among their many beautifully designed cakes, though, BBakery became most popularly known for their glass cakes – so much so that if you head on over to their Instagram, you’ll find that BBakery’s bio says it’s “The House of Glass Cakes”. And it’s a well-deserved title.

BBakery’s glass cake is a round, light sponge cake topped with a clear gelatin cover, often designed with fruits suspended in the gelatin layer. It’s a whimsical cake, and one that is able to marry the jelly-like texture of gelatin and the light texture of sponge cake well.

Here are the BBakery Cakes You Should Try

1 Rose Lychee Glass Cake

The Rose Lychee Cake is one of BBakery’s Glass Cake offerings, inspired by Singapore’s Bandung desserts. Sirap Bandung, or Bandung, is a popular Singaporean drink that’s made with evaporated milk and rose syrup, and the Rose Lychee Cake is BBakery’s twist on this pretty, pink, floral drink! It’s made with a rose and lychee flavored rose pink layer, while the clear gelatin layer is designed with fresh lychee. It’s a refreshing dessert that gives you strong bursts of lychee every time you bite into the fruit, cradled by a delicious hint of rose syrup in every bite.

2 Almond Lychee Glass Cake

This is a cake with no in-betweens: you’ll hate it if you’re not a fan of almonds, but almond lovers will rejoice in just how the flavor really comes through! The Almond Lychee Glass Cake is an unapologetic celebration of (you guessed it) lychee and almond, and it’s a clever cake, too, that plays with texture. The signature glassy gelatin layer sits atop a light and creamy soya-based mousse layer, and it also has a buttery graham cracker crust. Get the fruity lychee jelly, creamy and light almond-flavored mousse, and the crunchy, buttery crust all in one bite to experience just how well the different flavors and textures play together!

3 Handpainted Chiffon Cake

You can definitely order BBakery’s handpainted chiffon cake with custom designs, and ours came with a beautiful sakura or cherry blossom motif on a pretty teal background. Something that the Yummy.ph editors especially appreciated was that this pretty cake was wrapped in cling wrap – and with good reason: unfrosted chiffon cakes dry out when exposed to air.

This is where BBakery’s mindful packaging comes in handy: when we finally tried the cake, we found that it was still light, fluffy, and just the right amount of moist! This handpainted cake was filled with sweet whipped cream and fresh fruits, and we assure you that it tastes as pretty as it looks.

4 Caramel Cake

The caramel cake is also intricately designed, making it too pretty to cut into. But we’re glad we did! Despite its name, the caramel filling was not overly sweet and it melted beautifully into the soft, moist cake layers. It makes a perfect pairing with coffee or tea, especially when you’re craving something light and sweet.

You can order from BBakery via their Instagram or Facebook page, or by reaching out to them at 09175305296 on Viber or Whatsapp. Prices may vary depending on the size and your custom cake designs, so it’s best to send them a message ahead of time to get a quote and reserve your cakes!
